Charles Gabriel
President & Senior Portfolio Manager
As President of Empirical Modeling & Analytics (EMA), Chuck oversees the entire operation. Chuck has been with EMA since 1995. His primary responsibilities have included: performance measurement and risk attribution; investment manager searches; and the coordination of research requested by clients. Before joining EMA, Chuck was Co-Director of Research at Robert Harrell, Inc. ( a registered investment advisor) and served as a Lecturer of Finance at the University of Texas at Dallas for 16 years.
In 2016 Chuck assumed the position of Senior Portfolio Manager in addition to his other responsibilities. As Senior Portfolio Manager, Chuck's responsibilities include: the evaluation and monitoring of ETFs selected for our portfolios; the construction, optimization and monitoring of our portfolios; and performance and risk measurement.
Michael Wells
Executive V.P. of Communication & Education
As Executive V.P. of Communication & Education, Mike is responsible for the initial and ongoing education of plan fiduciaries and participants. Other responsibilities include: hosting quarterly meetings with investment committee members; hosting quarterly plan participant meetings; hosting quarterly new hire enrollment workshops; hosting "State-of-the-Plan" meetings with fiduciaries; functioning as a liaison between plan fiduciaries and our strategic partners; and marketing the services of The Better 401(k) Source.
Mike began his career in the financial service industry in 1982. He has worked for several firms including, Kidder Peabody, Shearson Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch. Mike also founded a pension consulting practice in the mid-eighties where he consulted fiduciaries and participants of participant-directed defined contribution plans for 12 years.
